ancient greek sandals x le sirenuse
Few destinations capture the romantic summer sensibility of Ancient Greek Sandals quite like Positano’s legendary Le Sirenuse hotel. A former private residence, colours and intricate tile work abound in this rare, cliff-side gem nestled into the Amalfi coast. Think lemon trees dotted around a terracotta tiled terrace, and deep scarlet painted walls adorned with white frescoes. Put simply, this is a place that oozes glamour and provides the perfect backdrop for long, lazy summer evenings, and perennially chic holidays.
We couldn’t be more proud to work alongside the hotel’s Emporio Sirenuse, a long-standing stockist of Ancient Greek Sandals, and their founder Carla Sersale, a close friend of the brand. Le Sirenuse are known for their elegant, printed summer dresses and vibrant kaftans - essentially the perfect partner for our sandals, and the ideal outfit for sporting around Positano. After many years of working together, our founder Christina Martini and Carla today launch our long-awaited collaboration, Ancient Greek Sandals x Le Sirenuse Positano.
Christina says, “I have been a fan of Le Sirenuse for many years and find great inspiration in the history of the hotel, as well as the dreamy surrounding scenery. As soon as I was asked to collaborate, I knew it would be the perfect partnership.’’
For this collection, we took a shared inspiration from Vali Myers, the legendary artist and dancer who defines the artistic glamour of 1950’s Positano, where she spent much of her time. The veritable definition of a free spirit, Myers lends herself to being a natural muse. Born in Sydney, Australia, Myers moved alone to Paris as a teenager in the late 1940’s, where she discovered a love of nightclubs, dancing, and painting and found herself at the heart of the post-war Bohemian art scene. In between salons with Salvador Dali and parties with Patti Smith, Myers created intricate, vibrant paintings that riffed on the social scene she inhabited and the bright surroundings of Positano, the city she eventually made her home.
The eight styles in this collection evoke a colourful, louche personality in true honour to one of our favourite artists. First, the Lurex group is comprised of three styles crafted from glittering metallic threads. Perfect for evening, the slide, lace-up, or ankle strap sandals will add a touch of Amalfi glamour to any outfit.
The Que Onda! (What a wave!) collection is comprised of five styles, the Nikki Onda, Nausicaa Onda, Stephanie Onda, Clio Onda and Eleftheria Onda. Inspired too by the SS20 prints of Le Sirenuse, they “translate seamlessly” from Carla’s ready-to-wear into the perfect sandal. Made from colourful vachetta leather, each style is also available in solid black, ivory, natural and platinum.
