Our Story

According to an Ancient Greek myth, the gods and goddesses had their sandals made on the beautiful island of Crete by a gifted sandal maker who enriched each pair with magical powers. Famous for having made the flying sandals for Hermes, the sandal maker also embellished them with his personal signature… a “golden wing” buckle.

Ancient Greek Sandals are handmade locally by skilled craftsmen using traditional techniques that have existed for centuries. A raw, yet feminine aesthetic distinguishes this new sandal brand. The chemical free, natural tan leather ages beautifully with time and wear.

Production

Ancient Greek Sandals are handmade locally by skilled craftsmen using traditional techniques that have existed for centuries.

Stitching is used delicately when necessary. A variety of techniques are used throughout the collection to decorate the uppers, such as hot stamps, lacing, cut-outs, printing, braiding, beading and embossing. The champagne coloured wing-design buckle is a brand trademark and refers back to the myth of the gifted sandal maker that made the sandals for the Ancient Greek Gods as well as Hermes the messenger god who wore winged sandals.

Construction

A small inner wedge has been inserted between the heel and the insole to elevate the back of the sandal. This provides comfort and a bit of a lift. There is also a thin rubber anti-slip heel under the leather sole. All uppers have raw edges, the different straps and pieces joined together mostly with platinum rivets. Stitching is used delicately when necessary.
